94 f150 4.6 5 sp man - gear shifter - re-install help
I have a 1994 Ford f150, 2wd, manual 5 speed. 4.6 6cyl. I just replaced the clutch, pres plate, thr near. In order to get the gear shifter removed, I had to take the entire shifter our (could not get the horizontal pin out). I removed the three torx screws, removed the entire shifter. When I removed it, I am pretty sure I put it in 1st to get to the rear torx screw. I have everything put back together and I cannot get the trans out of first. It feels alittle like it is in neutral, but it also feels like it is still in gear. I know it is still in gear because attempting to put the drive shaft in, it would not turn, and turning the front crankshafy bolt a little, the driveshaft would rotate. Also, with the driveshaft removed, I started it and the rear trans spline rotates. Pushing the clutch in stops the spline rotating, so I know the clutch system is operating properly. Is there any trick to putting the gera shiffter back in?? Seems like when I took it out, it felt like something clicked/snapped close, didn't break anything, it just seems like there is something I need to push in/out/over/down/?? before poutting the gera shifter in. It worked fine before, the cluch was just starting to slip. Any ideas??? Thanks
