Holley 1850 600CFM swap to 0-80452??

Gentlemen - new member here. As my name suggests I have a 79 F-350 4x4 (Dana 60's F/R). It has a 400M motor w/std trans. I'm thinking of swapping out the stumbling, misfiring holley 1850-9 with either a holley 0-80452 or maybe an edelbrock?? Intake is an edelbrock anyways so.. not sure if that means edelbrock carb would be bolt on or not. It's been a lonnnng time since I played with fuel systems. Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated! I do tow with it (albeit rarely) so the holley truck avenger is not an option Ideally I'd like to improve fuel economy with the same or slightly better performance from stock. Thanks!!

An 80452 or Edelbrock 1405/1406 should suit ya fine. I'd lean towards the Edelbrocks for daily driver use. Pretty much plug and play.

BUT, what intake ya got? A 2171 or 3771??

Thanks for the help HIO Silver. Damn I have no idea if it's 2171 or 3771. Where would I look to find out? (or is it obvious?)

There should be a PN cast on the manifold... another way to tell is whether ya got an EGR valve.... sometimes EGRs behave badly and make it run rough.

Why not do a carb rebuild? It's easier to do and alot less costly than a $275 carb. Call it an investment in your Dentside and Holley education... gives ya street cred too.

Good points HIO. I think I'll start with replacing harness, plugs, cap rotor then perhaps the EGR. If that doesn't help I will go with the rebuild. Want it done right (I don't even have a tank) and I know a guy who's great on Holleys. I've also heard the 600CFM is too small for the 400??
