I have a 1991 F350 4x2 with a 460 and the ZF 5 speed which is stuck in 3rd gear. No matter what position the shifter is in...it's in 3rd gear. I figure I've either bent a shifting fork or sheared off a pin to a shifting fork. I have an 88 f250 4x4 with a diesel and what appears to be the same trans. (5sp. with external slave cylinder) Can the tranny from the 4x4 be swapped into the 4x2? or maybe just use it for parts to repair the one that is stuck?
