The radiator mounting and battery trays are different from 65 to 66 as well as 61-4 also...

61-4 2WD trucks battery is mounted on the firewall next to RH hood hinge.

65 is the tray with 2 triangular brackets which mount to the core support..two of the inboard bolts goes through the radiator mounting bracket on the core support. The outboard bracket has 2 bolts which bolt to the main core support There is also a bolt/nut that goes through the fender apron anchoring the actual tray to it as well.

66 is the same as 65 except there are no bolts/nuts that goes through the radiator mounting ear...no ears to go through...instead the inboard tray bracket has 3 bolts as I recall which bolt to the core support in the same fashion as the outboard bracket on the 65 tray. Theres also the bolt/nut that goes through the tray and fender apron as in the 65 trays.

Basically all you need to do to use a 65 support in a 66 is flip the brackets around that are soldered to the rad (basically turns the rad into a 65 rad)

And you will need a 65 battery tray too as theres no nutplates on the inboard side to accomodate the 66 tray as the 65 inboard bolts to the radiator mounting flange that got deleted in 1966. Theres also 2 stiffener brkts used on 65 for the radiator mounting ears/brackets which also were deleted in 1966 too.

I bought a 61-64 support last year and modified it for my 66 2wd. It took a few hours to transfer the inner fender mounts, remove the radiator mounts, and to drill new holes to mount my radiator and battery box. Interesting that they now offer a 65 2wd support, but not the 66 yet.
Jerry, I am getting ready to do the same thing you did for my 65 2W F250. I am removing a core support from a 61-64 2wd and want to know what I need to modify forsure. I have the same inner fenders on my 65 as a 66 has. I see what you have listed but do you have any pictures of what you did? This made sense for me because the support I found was in very good shape and the guy sold it to me for 30 bucks.

You'll have to modify as I mentioned above. I don't have any pictures, but I did find this article with pictures that describes exactly what I did.
1966 Ford F100 Restoration: Using the reproduction core support

When you get your old core support out and compare it side-by-side with the 61-64 support, it'll make better sense on what you'll need to do.

Broomfieldbum:

I have the same vehicle, and am looking for the same part (radiator support). Did you purchase one, and if so, where did you get it from. MACs has one for $369.00.

Thank you,
Brad

I just bought a core support from CARID delivered for $342.00 . From what I can tell all these core supports seem to all be made by Goodmark. Whatever you do don't just go by the sale price, check the shipping price. Some want to charge you for truck delivery, mine came UPS or FEDEX shipping was something like 14 bucks not over a hundred as some distributors claim. As far as the quality it seems fine just had to do slight modifications and remove some parts from the old support as has been discussed. It's not in the truck yet but size wise I see no difference.

Aside from the visual differences of the stamping around the radiator opening, there are 3 holes on the underside top rail for wire retainers that are missing as well as several holes along the top also for wire harness retainers. They are easily added with a hand drill. There are two fairly large holes near the top on the ends that are missing. The one on the driver's side is for the wire harness to pass through that originally had a plastic grommet around the perimeter. It's just a tad under 1 7/16" so unless you have the correct die, you will have to cut it out with a hole saw and either make your own grommet or glue the original in place, or route the wire harness some other way. The hardest part would be the threaded inserts that are missing for the battery support. There are 2 at the far passenger end. I can't remember for certain but the 2 at the the bottom where the center support stands attach may need to be added as well. If you have the right tool they are no problem either, but it's not a common tool.

If you're modifying it for a '66, then you also have to remove the radiator side extensions and there are 3 captured nuts that should be spot welded to the front side of the radiator opening pillar on the passenger side to mount the battery support.
