fuel line

The three short pieces of fuel line behind the fuel reservoir. Are they regular 3/8 fuel line or are they something special? They have a blue coating on them. Didnt know if that was for heat or what.

I think the blue is the color of fuel line when it comes from ford. Most of that is 3/8" except for the drain stem which I believe is 5/16". Just get you some sae 30r9 generic fuel line from an auto parts store.

Check the sensors on the drivers side on the fuel filter canister. Especially the top one as shown in the photo below as it is known to leak. This one is called the "fuel filter restriction sensor", and is known to leak. Don't look at the threads but look at the electrical wire as that is where it might be leaking.

Also the actual fuel pump has a weep hole (like a water pump) located just to the left and below the pump assembly as viewed from the the front of the engine. It's almost impossible to see without a bright light and inspection mirror.

How many miles on the rig and do you know if the fuel pump has been replaced in the past? A bit more information on your venture with this issue is helpful.

Hussler, its a' 97 F250 7.3 with 130,000 miles. Ive had it almost 2 years. Havent had any problems until friday. Went to leave the builders supply friday morning. The thing wouldnt crank. I knew it was getting ready for oil change and fuel filter change. I checked the fuel filter and it was pretty dirty. The "water in fuel light" hadnt come on but I went ahead and dumped the reservoir. It tried to bust off but didnt. Called a local mechanic because Im no mechanic. He said he be right over. Instead he sent a rollback. My first thought was this is going to get expensive. After he rolled it off the rollback into the shop, it cranked right up. My luck. To may it a little shorter. Three hours later Ive got a new fuel filter and a $146 bill. The fuel dripping from the truck was from me not putting the top back on the reservoir. He said. Bull****!! Knew right then it was time to become a mechanic.hehe! Well when I got it home I cleaned all the fuel off the manifold. Cranked her up and watched. The low spot right behind the reservoir and the low spot right behind the gadget (told ya Im no mechanic) thats behind the reservoir started showing fuel. The rubber connecting pieces looked rough so I thought that was it. Got all those replaced today but its still leaking some where. Dont know if the pump has been replaced or not. I couldnt see any fuel coming down on the manifold at the pump. Thanks

The other night I was looking through this forum to get an idea of my problem. I ran across a picture that identified all the fuel parts and gadgets. Looked for it last night and couldnt find it. Can anyone help me out with this. I think I need mechanic 101 for dummies with plenty of pictures. Thanks.

I think you're talking about the fuel pump, down in the bottom of the valley.
