Searched already-Pump Wiring-Help?

95 f250 5.8 4x4///Got the bed off and the pump out of the tank.-----The new pump has a red and a black wire, both stripped bare at the ends.--How do you connect these ( cut and solder leaving the connection bare??)No connections came with the new pump.-- This is kind of scary to me (bare electrical wires inside of a gas tank).Pls help!God Bless--John

You could possibly re-use the old connector, or perhaps buy a m/f connector set at the store...short of that, you could solder and then use shrink tubing, or even electrical tape, tieing a knot on the last wrap.

No, the factory connections are exposed to gas from the factory...

Gas acts as a dielectric, stops arcing across poor connections. Thats why you can have an electic motor in your gas tank and not worry about explosions. Electrical tape and gas dont mix, however. I'd just use crimp type butt connectors.

// Do u mean the plastic coated butt connectors, Would soldering the wires to the existing wires be better??

Yeah, the plastic ones. Soldering is always better but you would need to use heat shrink to insulate them.

I'd solder and heat shrink.

Crimp butt splices are kind of hack to me. More so seeing how much work it is to get to them if one comes apart. I will use the crimp butts with the heat shrink built in to them But! not for this application.... Only one readily accessible to fix if need be.

I agree.
This also states how stupid the NTSB finding was when they said a spark inside a full fuel tank of Diesel (same as jet fuel) caused the TWA flight to blow up near NY in mid air.
