Update on that pesky code 542: Open Fuel Pump Circuit, PCM to MOTOR..
I know a while back I wrote in about it, where the Ranger was stalling out, dying in the heat of the day, and vapor locking. After replacing all the fuel system components, vacuum lines, fuel lines, pump, relays, inertia switch, regulator and PCM.. Still, same issue. Somewhere in the wiring harness is a gremlin! The computer shuts the fuel pump off by ground or power when it happens. I loaded a circuit test on the power line for the fuel pump and found that to be the case as I drove.
I dont recommend this as its unsafe, but I went ahead and bypassed all the fuel system and hardwired in the fuel pump to a switch on the dash.. It runs now!
Some day I will chase that gremlin down!
