Being a '94 Ranger (regular cab) with the massive 2.3L engine what are the possible reasons for fuel not being delivered to the fuel rail? I have already made sure all the fuses, relays, and circuit breakers are all in good condition. I even took the fuel pump out and used a jumper wire to test it. After I shot fuel all over the parking lot I reinstalled the pump and fuel tank then disconnected the outlet side of the fuel filter, (with the jumper still on the fuel pump) and fuel was shot all over the parking lot again.
I also tested the electrical connections at the fuel pump and could not find a wire with any type of juice. As I looked through the Haynes and Chilton Manuel's wiring diagrams it looks to me like the only other electrical device on the fuel pump's "system" is the PCM.
--Is the PCM the only device that controls the operation of the fuel pump?
--If the PCM is the only device that controls the fuel pump, and there is no operation of the pump, does that mean that the PCM is junk?
--Am I reading the wiring diagrams correctly and the PCM is the only electrical device that has control, or is there something that I am missing?
++Things I know for sure...
-The battery is fully charged therefore the electrical system is too.
-The fuel pump works as long as I use a jumper wire directly from
the battery.
-The fuel filter is definately not clogged because fuel flows through
it just fine.
-Using a test light and a good ground I was unable to find and "hot"
wire on the electrical plug that controls the fuel pump.
-I am a poor college student hoping this is an inexpensive fixable problem!
Thanks for any suggestions or ideas you can offer...
After some more examination I discovered that the diode in the engine compartment fuse box had corroded connections and a shot of WD40 and a little emery cloth solved this problem...
