If it is I may have a spare, if it is the smaller fitting one on the passenger side that is the auxiliary transmission cooler.
I prefer those to the 92-96 exchanger box that coolant runs through. Nothing but problems if the truck's coolant system was ever neglected.

These were used from 1988-early 1990, mid 1990 Ford changed to the "time bomb".

Bypassing it probably wouldn't cause any problems. But replacing it shouldn't be too hard or expensive either. I'd probably go that route.

And I suppose I should ask, but are you sure it's an oil cooler and not a trans cooler? Oil (gold fading to black) looks a lot different from ATF (generally red unless it's really old). But if it's a trans cooler I'd definitely replace it.

And oil or trans, I wouldn't consider fixing it (unless it's just a loose fitting).

If he is talking about having to run a different radiator hose it's definitely the engine oil cooler. When you take off the heat exchanger box, you have to run a longer radiator hose to the water pump to make up for the void.

They were optional probably from 1983-87, no 460s in 1980-82.

I didn't go back through the 5 year old posts before this question, so someone might have been asking about an oil-to-water cooler there. But this poster didn't say anything about a radiator hose. They said

I know there could be an oil cooler in front of the radiator, but I've never seen one. And I know that LOTS of trucks have trans coolers in front of the radiator. So like I said, I suppose I should ask...

I am in Exmore Virginia, USA. Probably between shipping and customs, it might be cheaper.
