hi guys, my mother has owned a property in melbourne for years and we have what looks to be a 48-49 f1 tonner but its dual wheelbase and i cant find much information on them, especially with a tray, can anyone help me with some info on our car, thanks

It's Canadian built for Australian market. Looks to be an F5. Austrlian Ford trucks built in Canada utilized the Canadian built Mercury truck fenders with the park lamps built into the fenders. U.S. and Canadian Fords has the park lamps mounted in the grille at each end of the upper grille bar. I'm assuming that your truck is also right-hand drive (RHD).

This is the third RHD Australian Ford to show up in the last few days here. There was another person that wanted info on two trucks that he came upon.

Thank you for the pictures of your truck. Really interesting to look at. The fender lights look to be just like the Mercury lights except for the amber lens. That chrome trim around the lens is becoming the latest hard to find item for us '48-'50 mercury truck guys.
Some are using the trim from the 1948 ford car.

thanks for the reply guys, yeah it is rhd, it is in pretty good condition apart from the paint beleive it or not, starts first shot and runs great.

in australia a tray is from what i have recently found out is a flat bed.

also if you could direct me to post of the australian asking for info on two trucks that would be great, thanks alot guys

1946, early 1947 Ford Passenger Cars have similar rectangular parklamps. Late 1947, 1948 Ford Passenger Cars have round parklamps.

 

Oops, thanks Bill for the correction on my earlier post for the year of the trim being used. I've seen the trim in boxes with a variety of date stuck on them.

I've owned 3 early 1947 woodies, an early 1947 Sportsman and a 1948 coupe. Not only are the parklamps different, but so are the grille emblems, grille bars and hood ornaments 1946/early 1947 vs late 1947/1948.

The rectanglar parklamps are mounted on the front fender extensions just above the grille. The round parklamps are mounted below the headlamps.

All 1942/48 Mercury Passenger Cars have similar rectangular parklamps, mounted in the same location as on the Fords.

 

no worries, ill get some more pics up of it in the next few days, i know its a truck forum, but i can throw some pics up of some other classics we have down there that need resto's aswell, theres a 65 valiant regal ap5, a 39 chevy pickup and i think a 65 or so ford falcon.

Hmmm....it has a tray and it's RHD. Does that mean that it also has a bonnet???

I guess I need to make a trip to Australia to learn the intricacies of the English language!!
