1951 F1 Front End Lowering
Hello everyone, I am getting ready to do the spring over axle drop in the rear and was wondering what was the best way to lower the front to match the rear drop? I am going to use the TCI Leaf Spring kit for the rear since it comes with all new leaf springs and seems like a complete kit for the rear. I saw LMC truck sells front lowering springs but wasnt sure if that was the best way to go. What have you done?
Thanks, Dave

Hi Welcome to FTE! I have a Jag IFS under the front of mine, but not on the road yet, not even close! I know there are lowering leafs, there are also lower axles, sort of a drop spindle built into the axle, and you use something different with the tie rods. Sorry for not knowing, but someone will chime in soon to fill in the blanks for sure!

Contact Sid here about drop axles...from what I have been told through my searches for lowering solutions, he is the best in the business and he uses your stock Ford casting. Good stuff.
As mentioned, you are looking at IFS or drop axle to lower it that much. You can get a few inches by using saggy old springs and remove a few. There is a thread on the HAMB right here that talks about lowering...it is a must read for any F-1 owner that wants to lower their truck in my humble opinion.
Good luck!

Drop spindles or dropped axle will require changing the steering geometry. As mentioned before tie rods, and the drag link will no longer be parallel to the frame. Not good for handling and won't improve ride quality. If you have the $ an IFS set up is much better. I dropped the rear by the leaf springs below the axle and an IFS in front.
