My Truck Hates Me

Not really I hope,

Last night I loaded it up with about 40 gallons of fuel and pulled into my driveway, check engine light, and fuel guauge drops below E, message displays fuel circuit fault on the dash....awesome.

I know there was an additive you could use to clean the sending unit, andyone help me out I tried searching but nothing good came up.

I know it has to be the sending unit because it read full this morning, and then went to E, now reads full again.

The additive that I've seen discussed is Techron. Supposed to clean up sending units. I like the stuff for gasser injector cleaning. If you want to try it, check the label for diesel compatibility. I think it is, but not sure.

Mine will occaisionally do the same thing yours did. I've seen it probably 3 or 4 times. Last time was while on vacation a few weeks ago. It clears itself up after a few minutes or an hour at most.

I think it is probably a slightly dead spot in the variable resistor on the level sensor. If it hits it just right, it goes dead, and combined with the anti-slosh logic in the PCM, it shows as empty for a while. As long as it continues to correct itself in a reasonable amount of time, I will just live with it.

Yeah I dont have an issue with that as much as the smoking I have now. It has happened to me 2 times now, the sending unit issue, but this is the first time it set the CEL light and displayed a message on my display.

I will check to make sure of the compatibility and give it a try. Im not looking foreward to changing the sending unit if I have to, with the GN in the bed and the larger titan tank...maybe I will call titan when its time and see if they have the correct sending unit for the extra capacity tank.

Thanks,

One other thing to check is the fuel sender connector on the frame next to the tank. It's possible that it's gotten corroded or just needs unplugged and replugged.
