....my gas gauge was acting funny last week, sticking on E, when I had fuel in the tank. My question is the engine light came on soon after, and it hasnt stuck since.
Did the engine come on because of the sending unit?
This is the 1st time the engine lt has ever come on. (40k miles)
Thanks
I dont think the CEL will come on if the sending unit is sticking. The wrench light maybe. Ususally the CEL comes on when it is an emmissions related fault. The wrench light comes on when its something other than that...I am not 100% but thats what OBDII says is supposed to happen. If I am wrong it will be corrected. As far as the sticky sending unit, do you run a fuel additive. Most will try a full shot of additive to clean the tank, and fuel system first.
I had the same problem a year or so ago. The fuel gauge would act weird. It would go up to full then down to empty. My lie O meter would also go up and down. The engine light came on and I took it in for a check up. The dealer said it was a sticky gauge sender due to sulfur build up. They told me to use chevron fuel additive and fill up with fresh fuel. It happened a few times after and would fix itself in time. Since switching to biodiesel I have had no problems. Here is the tsb. 06-5-10***MIL ON WITH DTC P0460 - 6.0L
So the engine light could be from the sendiing unit in the gas tank then?. It hasnt happend since, so how do I get the engine lt to go off? or should I still have it ckd?

If you can get your hands on a code reader that would be the first thing to do. Then you can see what code is thrown and go from there. If not I would bring it into a dealer and let them check it. Since mine was an emissions issue it was covered under warranty. If you just want the light off, disconnect the batteries for 10 minutes or so and turn on the lights to drain any electrical current.
If i disconect the bat. will the engine light come back on if there the issue persists. IOW, if i fixed the sending unit by add lube,(havnt had a prob since), if the engine light comes back on after disconnecting the bat. would that indicate a diff issue?
Because that would be an easier way of troubleshooting this issue until I can bring it in....

I am not a tech so I don't know exactly when the light would come back on if there is a problem. But it will come back on if there is a problem. You really won't know what the problem is unless you read the code. Then you can come back here to the tech folder and refer to what the code means.
