How hard will this be?

Hello, first post as a member! I have a 1993 Ford F150, 4x4 with the Manual 4/OD tranny. Its got the 300 six cylinder but the motor isnt the best. I was GIVEN a 1992 F150 with with a 5.0 302 with only 40,000 kms. The motor was a crate motor bought from ford when the last motor blew up. But the body and frame around the 5.0 is falling apart. How hard is it to take everything for the 5.0 and swap it in place of my 300?

It will be a pretty straight forward swap since you have a complete truck for parts. does the 5.0 truck have an auto tranny or manual, and if auto are you swapping the tranny also? The reason I ask is because you will get a code if the 5.0 truck is an auto and you bolt it up to the manual tranny or you can find a computer from a manual tranny truck or the non electric ford tranny,AOD I think?

Its an automatic, i figured it would be strait forward. Am i going to have to swap all the electronics? or should the stuff from the 300 work with the 5.0? And can i get the computer reflashed or something to get rid of the code?

The computer and wiring from the six cylinder won't work with the V8. You need to swap the harness and computer to make it work.

So does all the wiring in my dash have to be changed too , or just the under hood harness? Is there anything I have to worry about as far as my tranny goes to bolting up and running with the V8?

Is something major wrong with the I6? The I6 is a way better truck motor than the 302. More low end torque.

The 300 is very reliable too.

Well its burning oil, the oilpan is leaking a bit, just figured this 302 is reallyyyy low mileage and i can build a nice little v8, it looks better seeing a chromed out v8 under the hood too. But the trucks just gonna be a toy. Eventually I want to build a 347 out of the 302. So nows a good time to swap it over. On a scale of 1-10 how hard does this swap get?

This swap has been covered lots here so I suggest you do a search for added info. There are lots of parts that need to be swapped over to make this work and the engine wiring may be a bit of a headache.. just depends how good you are with that. It's only the engine wiring that needs work but there is no guarantee the harnesses in both trucks are entirely compatable.. meaning the V8 harness may phsically plug into the I6 chassis harness but there may still be wires out of place or missing.. that's something you'll have to examine in detail. Besides that you wll need a different flywheel since these motors have different primary balance, and you will probably need a different computer because these boxes are not flashable.

Would it help any if i switched the dash's too, and just completely take everybit of wiring from the donor? Because i want to use the grey interior from this truck as well because its in good shape, better then the red interior i have now. What kind of flywheel will I need to swap too? So the computer from the V8 will not work at all ?

If you have a complete donor vehicle, it should be pretty straight forward. You already have everything that you need (in the donor vehicle), so I say pull the engine and trans as a unit and go from there. Is the donor vehicle a 4x4 also? If so you could pull the engine and trans as a unit, leave all the wiring on the engine (just pull it out of the chassis) and swap it and the PCM into the new ride.

Doesn't seem like it should be all that big a deal if they are both 4x4.... I don't know for sure about the F150 but the bigger trucks use a different transmission in the 4x4 than they do in the 4x2, so that is the only complication I can see.

I believe you will have computer problems sice your computer off the 5.0 is for an auto trans. Might have to have it reprogrammed or find a plug and play comuter from a 5.0 manual.

yeah,as i said in my previous post you will need a manual tranny 5.0 computer or a computer from a non computer controlled auto tranny, otherwise you will get codes, but it should still run ok.
