does lucas girling brakes suck that bad??
i've been playing with it for a while never got it back together. But i find it odd that there are no shoe hold down retainers. I would think that would make it easy for shoes to get snagged on drum and break the springs.
Im going to look at one like mine and it is also locked up in the back. With mine it was the parking brake. loosensing up the chamber didn't do anything it was a stretched spring.
the park cylinders are straight and I don't see much of a design defect with those.
Anyone here with experience with the girling brakes

I dont think that Girling brakes suck at all. They last a long time. They're reliable. The parts are kinda expensive. But its not that bad.
The only reason they suck is because the next alternative is so much better. Air brakes are many many times better than hydraulic brakes on heavy trucks.

the truck had potential but the guy was one of those born again farmer types. The kind of person who who will give up a deal if you're short $5 bucks. he wanted $1100 for truck without motor or tranny the hood and fenders and door were trashed windshield busted in and no title.
I liked it becase it had 19.5 tires and frame was shortened 84" cab to axle. i guess it maybe worth it but i see them all the time real cheap. from $1000 to $2000 running and driving with gas engines.
I have a school bus with air brakes and cummins 5.9 12v( rather have dt466 or 8.3 cummins) with air ride and air brakes. i can cut that down and make it into a hauler.Just have to remove body. Its has 22" spoke daytons on it.

Why not, school buses are used all the time for haulers. you might be surprised at how well the 12V 5.9L will move a load. Not a 35K lb load but it will move 20K just fine.

i drove that school bus home empty it is a 74 passenger i think. in the hills it sucked i was constantly changing gear but on the flat highway it was fine. I wonder what a school bus weighs.
here the one the guy wants $1100 for minus engine tranny. it has 19.5's and 2 speed rear.
gvwr is 23k not much more than a f550 with dana 135 or 110. But flip up hood is nice as well as any engine can be put in.

the guy told me i can have it minus engine and tranny. it had a fs4205 and 5.9
12v
i have fs6206 ready for it and the same engine out of my school bus.School bus was ok on flat ground but on hill it sucked bad with the 5.9. there were other with the dt466 but i figured it would be easy to get around $2500 for a 12v ppump engine but i was wrong. I'm not gonna give the engine away. I'll use it in this rigs here.
chassis with the air brakes and hendrickson air spring system with get a dt466 mechanical engine. I heard they can pull and last forever.
So should i put a crew cab on it or a super cab??

i'm glad to hear that. that school bus must be around 19k lbs. In that f800 it should have enought power i hope lol.
the school in west va was getting rid of their old fleet. Most of the buses were all manual transmissions. the fords had 6 speed eaton fullers and the international had dt466's with spicer. 6+1. I heard spicers aren't as good as eaton fuller manuals.
Putting a little 5.9 12v in that is nuts. Especially for the hills of West VA. it was 215hp with 525torque on tag.
