Trimming out carpet around pedals and steering

I am looking for a new way to trim out my carpeting around the pedal arms and steering column shaft on my 54. In the past I have carefully trimmed out the carpet and melted the edges of the carpet to prevent unraveling. How does everyone else do it? Anyone know of some good grommets that may work? Any ideas?

I bought some of the grommets to go around the dimmer switch. They worked fine around the brake & clutch pedals.

Mid-Fifty sells some trim rings for this purpose but I made my own from some .063 aluminum and a piece of an inner tube to seal around the pedals.

I like the fab idea. I have checked out Mid50's stuff but I wanted something a little different. Got a source for the dimmer switch grommet? Thanks!

I think this is where I got them. There are several upholstery supply places that have them.

Not sure the grommet will work for a floor mount petal as it arcs and needs a bit more room. I’m going to try a model A emergency trim plate for the brake petal, they also make a bigger trim ring for the shifter that might fit the steering column, same supplier.

Old F-1, that plate reminds me of a house metal light swirch cover that has the opening enlarged and cheap to buy. You could put a piece of inner tube under it and split the inner tube for pedal movement.chuck

My pedals are the original floor mount pedals and the dimmer switch grommet works fine.

In the past, I have used a soldering iron to create any holes in the carpet for bolts, etc.

old F1, shinny is good. I was thinking of POR-15 and black paint to match black carpet. I was not trying to offend. Just thinking of cheap and availability. chuck

Chuck, no problem. Some of us are like Ravens or Crows, if it shines we like it! (..and sometimes not too much separates the animal species either . )
