Hey guys I am new to this forum so I hope this is in the right spot. I have a 1999 ford F250 with the 7.3 diesel and the ZF6 6speed manual transmission in it, 4X4. The transmission will shift into Low,1,2,5 and Reverse but will not go into 3rd or 4th (it feels like something is blocking it so it cant go into gear). I have tried to get it into gear with the clutch depressed and not using the clutch at all, also with the truck not running. I am thinking that the tranny needs rebuilt? Any ideas? Thank you!

Are you saying it won't even shift into those gears with the engine off? That sounds like more of a linkage problem. Have you removed the shift lever and taken a peek to see if anything looks out of the ordinary?

Nope it wont shift even with the engine off, but it will shift into the other gears besides the 3 and 4 with the engine off. I will open it up tomorrow and take a peak.
I pulled the shifting lever this morning and took a peek inside only to find that everything looked great. There was nothing out of the ordinary anywhere that I could see. after putting everything back together the 3rd gear feels like it wants to go in but it still wont. Any ideas?
The shift rail driver is held on by sleeved roll pins; there is a large roll pin and a smaller roll pin. If you take a socket extension and push the rail driver left or right you can see the pins. Watch the pins as you move the shifter side to side. The inner roll pin fell out of my driver and the outer one fractured as a result. This caused the truck to sometimes go into low and sometimes not, and finding gear 5 sometimes it would hit the shift gate instead of the gear.

Ok I will take a peak at that. I did mess up on my last answer, The truck wants to go into 4th instead of 3rd. But it doesnt want to move much and it grinds and still wont engage.
