After a loud pop lost power no indicaation of turbo boost and lots of black smoke.
Only have put 2k on after purchase. Last 1500 towing a 5th wheel. Towed in for repair.
Is there suposed to be a loud whining sound when the fan runs if it is the fan?
I am new to diesel and turbos. Any sugestions on what to expect?
Thanks Bob:

Loud pop could be the CAC tubing. When they blow off, it makes a loud pop. Check all the connections. Clean connections real good, then spray a little hairspray on those connections and re connect the tubing.
As for the fan, it is a load sound, you know it when it kicks in.
Will driving while blowing black smoke gume up the turbo?
Thanks for the tips, has anyone had a intercooler blow out?
The hair spray idea sounds good.
I hecked all the pipe connections I could see and all looked good, just have to wait and see.

I think if you have a CAC leak somewhere its going to have a majoir loss of power
some 05+ had a plastic CAC tube that crackes
check for striped clamps ect.....
the loud whinny sound when fan runs could be a fan clutch getting ready to go
at least you kinda know what the shop should tell you
Thanks Blade35, I was seeing a little over 20 when I heard the pop. I had heard a smaller popping sound earlier but the turbo boost came back right away.
Don't know what that means either. Maybe a dirty turbo needs to be cleaned before I move on.
