99 f250 7.3L WIX Fuel filter won't thread in

Tried to install a Wix pre 99.5 fuel filter-truck manufactured 7/98 (this is the filter with the plastic screw cap attached to the filter) the filter spun in just fine for two turns and then tightned down to a stop, and stuck...couldnt tighten one bit more. Removed it and the threads were fine on the filter housing and the new fuel filter- not stripped. checked the threads per inch on the old motorcraft and the new wix and the wix TPI appears to be slight off. Anyone run into this issue?

Which number wix did you get? 33818? They come up on napa's site but don't look like the right filter. Oh, and early or late 99 doesn't matter. The 99-03 all used the same filter. The obs trucks (94.5-97) have a different one. If you can't get a Motorcraft one easily (or don't have the flat OEM cap, like in my case), I've been using ones from autozone. FF831 is the one you need.

That is the filter I used on mine last time. It will work you just have to get it started correctly. For some reason it does not want to go on right very easy. Just play with it a bit and you should be able to tell when it is threaded correctly.
