New to FTE forum

Hello All,
I'm new to the forum and looking for info. I have a 64 F100 4x4 w/ a 390 and I'm looking to upgrade axles and steering. Where can I find some basic specs like frame width, spring perch width, for 61-64 trucks and 67-75 F250s? Everything I can get my hands on suggests that the 65-66 F250s had the same dimensions and setup as the 61-64 F100s (except from the knuckles out). Did Ford change dimensions in 67? My info shows spring perch width as 31.5" for those years (67-75). Thanks for any light you can shed on this.

I'm not 100% positive, but based on what I've read on this forum recently, I believe they widened the frame in 73, for the 6th generation body style.

ONLY on the 2wd trucks did they widen the frame and then only behind the cab, the front section of the frame is the same up to 79.... 4x4 frame widths are the same up to 77 1/2 model years.

Welcome to FTE Brian!

Thanks Bill. This agrees with what I've pieced together for 67-75 F250s. Do you know if the widths are the same for the 64-66 F250s?

Bill, I thank you as well. That's good info to have. I've thought about using my old 76 to update te suspension on ky 64, and now I'm a lot more confident about it if I decide to do that.

Welcome to FTE...is your 64 4WD a factory 4WD ??? the first 3 of the VIN will be F11...F10 for 2WD...Factory 4WD are very rare....2,922 copies with the Styleside box (57-60 'wrong box') and 802 Flareside pickups...stepside in GM terminology...either way a rare truck...

cs65,
It is indeed a factory 4x4 as the vin begins with F11.

1961/72 F100/350 rear frame rail width (behind the cab): 33 1/2."

1973: Ford widened the rear frame rail width on F100/350's to 37 1/2" except on the following F250/350's which retained the 33 1/2" rear frame rails:

1973/76 F250 4WD, 1977 F250 4WD before serial number Y20,001 (all High Boys) / 1973/79 F350's on the 140" wheelbase.

1977 F250 4WD from serial number Y20,001, 1978/79 F250 4WD (all-not High Boys): 37 1/2" rear frame rails.

Dueling Bill W(ilson) frame rail info:

This Bill Wilson sez: All 1973/79 F100/150 4WD's have 37 1/2" rear frame rails, as do the non High Boy 1977/79 F250 4WD's.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc brakes were first offered for F100/250 4WD's in 1976.

1973/76 F100/250 4WD & 1977 F250 4WD (before serial number Y20,001) used Power Assist P/S. This system has a separate control valve and ram cylinder.

The manual gearbox is used because it has nothing to do with Power Assist. Two totally different types of Power Assist P/S were used on these F250 4WD's.

1973 F250 4WD, 1974 F250 4WD before serial number T80,001 used Garrison Power Assist P/S.

1974 F250 4WD, 1975/76 F250 4WD, 1977 F250 4WD (before serial number Y20,001) used Bendix Power Assist P/S.

Be aware that replacement parts for Power Assist P/S are all obsolete, expensive, difficult/almost impossible to find, depending on what's required.

Updating 1961/64 suspension, adding power steering and etc. FTE member Garbz2 is the one to ask about these mods.
