Diesel Problems - Travelling

3 weeks ago water separator light came on, took to dealer for service and removal of water. Left on trip, 400 miles later water separator light is on, drove another 150 miles wrench came on, engine went into limp mode. Pulling 5th wheel spent night in MN, ford dealer said "no codes", emptied water sep., new air filter, new fuel filters, drove 530 miles no problem, got to Rapid City SD, water/sep lite came on and wrench took to ford dealer, code read water sep error, emptied water/sep, drove OK for 2 days, yesterday wrench came on and message "reduced engine power" (1st time saw this message. ) Stuck in rapid city trying to get back to Michigan. Any idea what is going on?

Let me add, wrench and engine reduced power came on after 12 miles, drove back to campsite started up and left campground lite/message did not appear, drove 40 miles without coming on. Also even though message read reduced power I did not notice any reduced power, continued to climb hills at sufficient speed.

maybe your sensor for the water is bad. Have you personally drained it to see how it drains?

Do you have the codes listed off the invoice?

Cheezit beat me too it..yeah, what he said

Yes the dealer on Tuesday drained water out of it, is it possible to get bad fuel back in my home town (when lite started) and even after many fill ups still have the water in the system? Had fuel filters changed 1 1/2 week ago, should they be changed again?

very possible. hopefully you dont wind up with a p0088,p0087 or a p2291 as a result. save your recipt for the fuel you may need it.

Like slowmans said diesel clean. Also there have been instances of weird things happening like your reduced power warning without really having reduced power. They have been finding corrosion on sensor and relay plugins and also same thing on pcm's. Hope this helps

I drained the water separator today and that fuel seems to be OK - no water, drove it for 20 miles no wrench/warning message. Got an appointment at a dealer on Monday to see if there are any codes, if not heading east to Michigan, thanks for your comments.

as long as the fuel drained with a good flow that is a good sign. My concern is that there is a bunch of gunk in there messing with the sensor and a wax buildup.

So that appears to be good so far.
