I saw a pic of this the other day, and have tried researching it and can't find anything. What/when was this symbol used?

I believe they were used in the late 40's, early 50's.

 

It was on a '56 Ford, I seem to remember. You should be able to see it here on the front of this '55 CV. Sorry - it was bigger on my screen. Take my word for it! LOL http://www.classicalgasmotors.com/ca.../0894front.htm

 

i want to say it was used up through the 60's. my dad used to have a 62 1ton that had that on the hood emblem.

The colored crest was on the premium cars, sort of like Cadillac's crest.
