WOW. This was among the most helpful of threads. The 64 year old pins are out! Many thanks Stu for the puller idea. I have to admit that I semi ignored your instructions and grabbed a cheap bolt at the hardware; I managed to shear off a 1/2 bolt w/a breaker bar I went to the fastener shop and got a grade 5 bolt and out she came. My deepwell sockets are shaped in a way that I couldn't get the bolt through, so here I am with my small socket and a bunch of wrenches as spacers to add to the throw of the puller. Got both my axles out today, happy man.

Put a big flat washer behind the nut, slip it over an appropriately sized socket (13/16" IIRC), screw the grade five bolt with above assembly into the grease zert hole, then put the torque to the nut against the washer and socket. Depending on how worn the pin is, it will fight you, and might need some heat and a BFH, but it will come out. Sure is easier than laying on your back making holes in your frame and swinging that BFH upside down. Stu

Edit - the bolt used is a 1/2" x 13 tpi grade 5. You also have to add threads up the shaft an inch or so to give yourself enough depth to clear the socket. Stu

WOW, that's freaking awesome. My truck does have holdes in thie cross member support already and they look factory but this method is easier anyways. Learn something new all the time.

It's a lot easier than swinging a BFH when you're upside down under the truck and having road grime falling in your face! Stu

I thought that was the whole purpose of our hobby.

I drilled the holes. The pins came out fairly easily once I could get a straight shot at the drift.

2x on the hole, it took longer to drill the hole with a step bit, 1/d drive extension and an air hammer and the pins walk on out.
