1989 F-150 5.9l 4spd

Alrighty Guys, I am from the IDI side of the forum and I know a lot about gasoline engines, but I am even more know'd up in the 6.9 & 7.3 Diesels from 84-94.5. What do you guys think is wrong with mine, It will crank and start up but if I dont floor the damn thing off the getgo she will studder and **** and moan and die, if I give her some gas she will take off like a bottle rocket compared to my IDI (IDI is a pulling fiend, nothing for speed). It will continue to do this for forever. I rev it up and let it go back to idle and it will start studdering again. This truck has 50k original miles on it, and I love the look of her because the body has ABSOLUTLY no rust on it.

Problems with the truck:

Studder Issue.
Needing Clutch(I hot rodded a little TOO much one day and its slipping)
New Battery
New Oil Change
Coolant Flush

I will post pictures of the truck later today. I am returning home from Iraq and I want to be able to run around in this thing until I get the IDI fixed(needs flywheel ring gear). What do you think? It gets about 15 mpg in town and 18 on the highway @ 75mph...(I tend to go a little faster cause its fun to hear that engine scream XD)

Check fuel pressure and pull the codes, see www.forfuelinjection.com for a procedure that doesn't require any special tools.

Ok thanks, Sorry about the Title, I was reading on the 5.9 cummins right about the time I posted this XD. I meant 5.0l lol. I heard something about an Idle Sensor of some sort(I know carbs, not EFI). Whats the sensor they are talking about?

Ford Fuel Injection » Idle Air Bypass (IAB) This is it but listen to what Conanski advises.

So What I am gathering from that article I think my IAB is bad because it will not even idle at startup. There has to be driver input, if there isnt any it wont stay running...

You could try taking it off and cleaning it with carb cleaner being careful not to get any cleaner into the electrics.
However from your description of what is happening it sounds more like you have a fuel pressure problem.
Also if you check for any trouble codes it may help to pin-point the problem.
