Cam Switch Recall - INFO Please
Hello.
I have a 2001 / F250 SD/ 7.3 Liter / Date of Man/ 09/00
Ford sent me a letter for the Cam Switch Recall.
So I go the Ford Dealer - BIG MISTAKE...
they want $ 250.00 to change the swith.....
My Question : Can I just do this myself?.. What is the part number? And what is the procedure?
Thanks in Advance..

Ouch. Actually there are 2 recalls for the truck. The CMP (CPS Cam Position Sensor) and the brake switch on the hydroboost unit.
Regardless, I'd suggest you call Ford and tell them the recall number, the dealer name and that the dealer wanted to charge you $250 for the work.
Now to answer your question, yes you can easily do this yourself. The CPS costs $25 from Ford (find a different dealer to buy from or order from Ed here) and the instructions to change it with pictures are here Welcome to guzzle's CPS R&R Web Page<
BUT, you're really better off NOT changing it since the "new & improved" version has been known to cause a slightly rougher idle, vibrations, or even have the engine throw some false fault codes if certain tests are performed with a scanner. You're better off throwing a CPS, the instructions, and a 10mm ratchet in the glove box and just having it on hand in case your CPS goes out.

Went to a Ford dealer for a oil change two weeks ago. They did both recalls (CPS and brake switch) for no charge, and I kept the old CPS. He truck does run smoother now with the new CPS by the way.
That dealer needs to be reported for trying to charge you for a recall, call Ford and the NTSB on their asses.
