E4OD burnt fluid?

Well heres the scoop. A couple weeks ago I over heated the tranny in my truck. After a lot of research on this forum I wanted to check this out my self. Heres whats happening, Since I bought the truck the reverse has been getting slower to engage and the fluid is dirty and burnt. after I over heated it. It still shifts fine but I still wanted to drop the pan and change the fluid and filter since a rebuilt one is out of my price range and a used one is impossible to find. Well after I dropped the pan and inspected the fuild sure enough its burnt. my question is that theres a magnet in the bottom of the pan that is full of very fine shavings theres no big chunks and about an 1/8 in thick. The truck has 104,000 miles on it and I doubt anybody serviced the tranny. So Im wondering does this look normal and should the tranny be fine? Thanks For All The Help!

It is normal to get some buildup on the magnet.
Also you should drain the torque converter at the same time as that is where the bulk of the old fluid is.
