2001 F-250 Ex/C Paint Cracked on Roof?
After I bought my truck used, I noticed on my roof where there is two channels running from front to back, both above driver and passenger side of roof that the paint in these channels was cracked. On both sides and all the way from front to back. Well I took it to a good body shop that my family has used several times in the past, and he said that was a paint defect and that they could fix it.
So I paid to have it repaired, where they sanded down the roof and repainted the whole roof. It looked good, and this shop warrenties their work for life. Well it has been 2 years and guess what? The paint is cracked again. I take it back to the shop and he looks it over and states that because Ford used some kind of putty in the channels and that the sun warms up the putty and it softens it will keep causing the paint to crack. So now he doesn't want to warrenty his work.
Anybody know how I can fix this problem for good? Anyone else having this problem? I paid good money to have this done right and now I have to do it again. So I want to make sure it gets taken care of.
Thanks,

If the shop charged "top-Dollar" to do a repair, that means they took it all the way down, removed, replaced anything & everything, then used their own materials & labor to ensure it was done "right".......now if they didn't, that means they accepted the work that was there, prepped, painted the truck knowing the materials that were used and gave you a warranty based upon both the price & likely state regs.
I would have a little further chat with them. Times are tough, economics are bad, its going to cost either them or you more money to fix it. You paid for work that included a warranty, otherwise, it would be stated on the docs..."No Warranty" meaning you are accepting the risk and saving a few $'s.

I am going over on monday and see what they have to say. When I had it done the first time I didn't go the cheap route. I had just bought the truck and never thought of checking the top of the roof, otherwise I would have brought that up with the dealer. But I got such a great deal on the truck, I don't think it would have changed my mind any. I would have just did what I did do and have it repaired. It is just the idea that the body shop said it would be no ploblem to fix, so they fixed it then now 2 years later it is cracked again, and for them to say that it will keep happening again, and not stand behind the work. If I have to I will go else where and get it fixed.
I am just wondering if anyone else's roof is doing this?
