Don't Use NAPA/Carquest Fuel Filters!
I had this code pop up after normal fuel filter replacement schedule. I did not associate the code and power problems with the filter replacement. The engine would hesitate on acceleration uphill with a 'miss' and exhaust puff of black smoke about every second until I eased off on the gas pedal! After 5 months of this problem in which I replace the mass air sensor and MAP hose, I finally got a no start condition in which there was insufficient fuel to start the engine! I had the truck towed and diagnosed at my local shop where they diagnosed the problem as a faulty after market fuel filter in the HFCM (the big filter on the frame) not depressing the plunger appropriately! The fuel pump was working properly but the fuel bowl on the top of the engine was not getting fuel! The mechanic replaced the NAPA fuel filter with a Motorcraft filter and the truck runs fine now! I had been using NAPA gold fuel and oil filters for years with no problems but now I will only use Motorcraft filters. The shop mechanic said that they have seen numerous fuel filter problems the past year with NAPA fuel filters. Also, dieseltechRon has a video in which he states that NAPA/Carquest filters are the worst in the industry! You can see his very informative video on this here:
