out with the old and in with the new

just bought myself a 4v fe. im not sure its cubic inches but im 75% sure its a 390. Its a 76 f150 truck motor, and all the part numbers on motor match the year. the heads are d2te, the intake is a d5te, and mostly the others are d2te.
I have never heard of a 4v fe in a truck stock. it is 2wd.
did i stumble across a hard to find or just lack of info from my hole in canada
will be going into my 79 f250 4x4 mud bogger.

The 390 4v was offered on the 2wd f-150s, and f-250s and the 4wd f-250 got the 360 2v. Seems very backwards but thats how they did it. If it's original to the truck the engine code should be "M", that's the 4th digit in the VIN. "H" is a 2v 390, "Y" is a 2v 360. You should just measure the stroke to find out. Remove the #1 and 4 spark plugs and bring #1 up to TDC. Insert a dowel and make a mark, then do the same on the 4 cyl. The difference is the stroke. 3.5"=352/360 about 3 3/4"(3.784)=390.
Good luck on the upcoming project.

Nice find... That's true, they never put anything bigger than the 360 in the 4x4 models. Given the strength of everything behind the engine, it was a damn shame

It was from a 2wd f150. And I measured it at 3.75 inches. Also found out my old 390 that I has in the truck was actaully a 352.
So this should wake her up
