Remanned tranny installed but same problem
Hey everyone
ok here's my story. 04 f 150 5.4 3V 4x4 4R75E. 112,000 miles. I was towing my boat home and had a hard clunk and felt like it fell into neuteral. O/d light flashing and trans fault on screen. Pulled over in park let idle as a checked for leaks or parts on the road. After 10 mins both warnings went out and truck drove home fine. Next time I get in put in drive and both warning lights come on. Dosent shift out of first gets to 1800 rpm big surge but still no power. 2500rpm to hit 40mph. Go get the codes read and this was the list.0731, 740, 743, 748, 750, 753, 755, 758 and 962.
Mechanic says trans is toast. I opted to buy a remanufactured tranny. Got the truck back today and lights still flashing and driving the same. Shop says PCM needs to re learn "new" trans and after driving it some it will get back to normal!
Did I get screwed over or is this possible? I appreciate any and all help with this.
thank you

why didnt they clear all the codes
They said they did.
My own expectation is that after a shop "fixes" my car, they do not return the car to me with dash lights and diagnostic trouble codes. You say that you bought a remanufactured transmission. Did you buy it yourself and have the seller ship it to the shop? Or did the shop sell you a remanufactured transmission? Did the shop quote you a price, you paid the shop, and you have no idea if the transmission was a remanufactured transmission with a warranty, who remanufactured it, etc?
Assuming that the shop sold you a transmission, and installed it......I can't understand why they did not hook up a code reader to clear the codes.
Did I get screwed over or is this possible?

Without talking to them I can't tell if the shop is lying or incompetent. But I'll bet your problem is that they are one or both of those.
Now that you've spent the money on the remanned trans, you need someone that can diagnose the original problem, which is still present in your truck. I'll bet the place you took it can't do it, but maybe I'm wrong. It is most likely a damaged wiring harness.

Ok heres an update. Got to the shop before they opened and the actual manager was there and was very apologetic and upset that his guys sent me home with the truck that way. The senior diagnostic guy wasnt there apparently throughout my whole repair but will be back monday. He agrees that its more than likely electrical and will have his guy on it first thing monday and only charging half the hourly rate to make up for their mistake.
Its on me for taking first guys opinion on trans being broken and buying a remanned before getting a good diagnostic job done. Ive learned an expensive lesson and will not make same mistake again.
Hopefully its not to big of a job.
Thanks guys for your input and advise
