Van turbo and MBRP installed on X!!
Other than the near 100* heat and the fact that I'm a lousy mechanic, the job went smoothly. Except the park manager explaining how working on vehicles is not allowed here...
I got the exhaust like 2 days after ordering it (thanks Clay! ) and it was a piece of cake to install. I cut the stock junk just in front of trans x-member and behind muffler and it came out with truck sitting on all 4 tires.
The old turbo came out in less than 45min and I cleaned the CAC tubes and pedestal and did the EBPV delete. Then, I put it ALL THE WAY back together with the van turbo (THANKS JIM), put most of the tools away and decided to crank it up. When I do, I walk around back and listen to the exhaust, ease up front and look under the hood for a bit and finally turn off the truck - eagerly awaiting a test drive. At some point, I observe 1/2 gallon of shiny, BLACK (5k miles) engine oil running off the piece of cardboard I was laying on!!! I cleaned up the spill and pulled the turbo off again and found a pinched o-ring (ie, the lousy mechanic). Put it all back together again and its all good now.
The bad news is my up-pipes are leaking BAD.
Went from nearly 30psi on the stock charger that blew up, to barely 20psi on a known, good stock charger - thats when they started leaking, because I saw them when I swapped turbos a few weeks ago and they didn't look like this! So, another call to Riffraff and ceramic-coated bellowed up-pipes are ON THE WAY!!
Now, I just gotta find a place to wrench on my truck so I don't get evicted!
Even though I'm still only making 20ish psi, the SOUND this thing makes is awesome. Its kinda like a big block muscle car with mufflers mixed with a jet-powered helicopter. The tone/pitch of the exhaust is a beautiful 'song' accompanied by the turbo whistle as the lead singer. I am pretty infatuated with it right now (and I have had a couple beers, lol...) My other truck has a 38R, 6637 and a straight pipe - I love that sound, but this is waaaay cooler!! That van turbo SINGS!!!!
