Ford Navigation vs garmin
Picking up a new 2011 Expedition with navigation next week. Over the years I have grown so used to my trusty Garmin GPS. It has never failed me. How do the turning prompts, turning arrows, voices, etc on the Ford navigation compare with a Garmin GPS? Are turn prompts and turn arrows given well ahead of the actual turn? I've heard that the Ford navigation does not announce "recalculating" when deviating from the mapped route. Is this true? I've also heard that Ford navigation only announces something like "turn right in 400 feet" whereas Garmin will say " in 400 feet turn right onto Market Street". Ford does not announce street name. Can this be confirmed?
Thanks

I'll never buy a GPS or Nav for any of my vehicles going forward. My Droid Navigation is far and ahead much more accurate than either of the Navs discussed. I have only played with the Ford Nav on a limited basis but have had many problems with stand alone GPS like the Garmin's and such. Head to head, GPS vs. my Droid phone, no comparison.

My 2010 Expy EL did not have Ford navigation system, so I used a Magellan until it stopped working, then went to the Garmin RV. Much hapier with the Garmin, although none is perfect. I traded the 2010 in on a 2014 Expy EL which was equipped with Ford Navigation. An absolute bummer!
Complicated address input, and p..s poor algorithims have me making making U-turns and taking overly complicated and round about ways to a destination. Also I am annoyed by the "maps not complete in this area."
I will be taking my Garmin with me when we travel across the U.S. this summer with our travel trailer.

I have a 2007 Navigator with the Ford navigation system. I like it ok but I am sure the newer ones are better.
I use the Ford navigation system around town but when I travel I take my Garmin. It is better at finding eats and hotels. So I use the Ford system while driving all day but when I need gas, food, or a hotel I turn on the Garmin.
They each announce directions a little different but both are ok as far as I am concerned.
