Ever since my recent problems with the Mothers Back to Black leaving streaks on my truck paint (No slam against Mothers). I still wanted to turn my plastic bed rails and wiper cowl back to original looking. I tried the heat gun trick, It did work, But took way to long. Instead I pulled the cowls off, Taped off the bed rails, And shot them with two coats of Krylon Fusion. This product is awesome, Cheap, And bonds instantly. $5.00 a can in my local hardware store. Great alternative to the heat gun.

I used some of that on my Wrangler f-flares a couple years ago. Flaked off after being touched too hard. Hope it works out better for you.
