Rear Window Panels won't Open

For almost as long as I have owned my EX the rear fold out windows have worked intermittently. Seems like the temperature and humidity creates a seal that the motor cannot overcome.

Anyway, for the last two weeks neither side will open. I can hear the motor click but the window will not open even if I am applying some pressure on the window while my wife works the controls.

In the past I have lubed the window seals with silicon spray. Sometimes the windows will open when driving but not when idling in the drive way...now nothing.

Any ideas?

I had a similar problem on one of my Expy's and ended up cleaning the connection at the motors and lubing the actual mechanism. I haven't had any issues with the Ex but the mechanism and the motors look similar so it may be something to try.

Temporarily Fixed Again!

So I used a putty knife and gently freed the rubber molding from the side panel glass on both sides. Voila! The motors open the windows again.

Once again i have put silicone lub on the rubber. Any better ideas for a permenent fix?

Just so your idea for cleaing the contacts. i think I will try that next.

Thanks

get rid of the silicon spray lube and use graphite powder. it doesn't absorb the moisture so also doesn't freeze or stick shut. that's what I've always done with my electric windows to keep the motors from burning out anyway, hope it helps?

Maybe try rain-X on the INSIDE of the window around the edges
so it won't stick?

Thankfully, I've only had 1-time when they would not open,
just after starting my PSD (alternator not "on" yet until GPs turn off).
Once the alternator kicked in they opened, so it might need
13+ volts to open when they are "sticky".

xran has the right idea there.

I would open up and check the motors also like mentioned. The top plastic pc pulls off first, then either side. All have just push in spring snaps and easy to pull off.

Heading to Charleston, SC for two weeks. After that I wil take a look at the motors and also try some graphite. Thanks for all the good ideas!

I've had this problem too... but it was my motor not making good contact (electrically). A little spray of WD40 (in a rush), and eventually it again worked. This was the side I rarely use (spare tire side).

Now my fix; To occasionally open that side. Maybe a few times a week.

I rubbed lithium grease all round and now they are fine. I also had a problem with them opening unless the RPMs were up.
