Free tires! Should I put them on my truck?

I've got a '99 F-150 XL 2WD 4.6 triton, steel factory rims. Currently running P255/70R16 tires that need replacement. I've been give a free set of Michelin P265/75R16 that are slightly used, but are in fine shape.

They'll fit and save me a bundle, but I've wondered about drawbacks due to the non-OEM size.

Questions for the group: Would you recommend I have these tires put on my truck? If not, why?

It will make you speedo inaccurate, small fries though. IF you have an automatic it is possible that it won't shift right. If it is a 5spd, go for it.

PLUS it is only 10mm, not that much height difference. That is about 3/8" in sae.

if the new tires are actually a 75 series, and the originals are 70, then the diameter difference will be 1.5 inches... You will be off about 5 % in speed so when the speed o reads 62 MPH, you will actually be going 65 mph... at 95 mph, you wil be going 100 phm... put them on. They will be 3/8 inch wider at the tread.

MY truck had 235/16's originally, I now run 265/17's--aside from a slight odo difference you aren't going to see any problems.

I had 'em mounted today. They fit just fine and saved me about $500 bucks.

Thanks for the good advice fellas.
