Brakes Dragging?

Ok so I havent actually pulled the wheels and off and looked at the pads and rotors, but I jacked the front end up and spun the tires and I could hear the pads rubbing about half of the way around on each side. Is this normal or is that a sign of pins sticking? The reason for doing this is I am chasing a mpg issue as a few others on here are. I also need to check how tight my wheel bearings are torqued to since I had them replaced a few months ago. Could they have gotten them too tight? I am also wanting to know how to check if the back brakes are dragging since the tranny has to turn while you spin them and they dont spin as freely as the front.

You'll hear a little shhhhh sound while your turning the tire but as long as the tire isn't stopping or dragging you should be fine. I did have to change my front rotors out last year because they were beat, and problebly warpped so check those out. Put the rear up on jack stands, chock the front wheels and put the truck in nuetral, its tuff to turn but you can get an idea. Never tried it on my truck though, on my wifes Expy..

If its in neutral they should turn fairly easy. If not it could be emergency brakes or slid pin, just have to pull the tires to see.

I check/lube caliper slide pins every other tire rotation. Its VERY easy to do with tires off and one reason I rotate tires myself... Ive also been using dielectric grease for lube as it seems to last longer than 'caliper grease' or anti-seize.

A little rubbing is normal. Make sure the little springs that help hold pads off rotors are in place and in good shape.

I highly recommend EBC brake pads (call Riffraff) for superior stopping power and long rotor life. I use lifetime warranty rotors from O'Reillys...

I just did this, this past weekend. I jacked up the front and when I tried to spin the front tires the drivers side would not make a full 360 around. It would stop about a quarter the way. The passenger side would rotate two to three times all the way around with the sh-sh-sh-sh sound but sounded tighter then I thought it should. I ended up replacing both rotors as they were under spec to be turned and installed new pads as well, and repacked the bearings. I used the web page from Guzzle's and did the slid pins; it was way easy to do. His page also has the torque specs you need as well.

Thanks I didn't think about checking guzzles.
