After my warranty expired, I started wrenching on my truck. Since then I have caused an exhaust leak twice. Of course, it is always in the same place between the exhaust manifold and the up pipe. With this in mind, I have noticed a trend as well. When I have the exhaust leak I loose somewhere around 2mpg, roughly (enough threads on that).
So, in my experience if you have an exhaust leak especially before the turbo, you will lose mileage. I do not know if this could be an issue for you, but it is my experience.
i have a drw as well. i get 15 on the highway and about 12 around town. not much you can do. just part of owning a dually. although IMO i would trash that banks!!! it caused me and my dad way to many headaches. got rid of it and put a edge on his chevy and no problems anymore. banks has good products but again IMO there tuners suck!
put the truck on a 2000lb diet. get it down to about 3tons and you get that mpg you wanted.
that would throw it down around the duramax's weight, what kind of milage are they getting?
My truck has always gotten around 16MPG (hand calculated) for my normal weekly drives between base, town and highway. It doesn't matter if I run Eric's tunes, Matt's tunes, or run the stock file.
The best I ever saw was 19.5 on a trip from Fort Polk, LA to Fort Sill, OK.
