Vehicle has to have 12,000 miles or less on it when you start complaining for the lemon law to take effect, so you may wanna get on record now with your dealer... the term to use is 'excessive.' Ford didn't listen until that word started getting tossed around. And then I needed to call the Ford customer care line, and the woman taking care of my case has been on the dealer daily.

I'm not sure I would be such a pain in the *** about it if I weren't camping with it, but you get in late at night and your tow vehicle clanks for two hours... just not pleasant for the neighbors. My sister lives in a noisy neighborhood and I was parked halfway up the block and she looked out her open window at one point and asked, 'what the hell is that clanking sound?'

Did they say if both sides are that hot or one side is in "normal" range and the other isn't? I still say the only thing that can cause that type of heat is either an extreme lean condition or a cooling issue. It sounds like the tech was thinking lean as well other wise they wouldn't have played with the A/F ratio. Btw the ecu controls the A/F ratio.

All components they measured were 140 to 180 degrees higher than a comparable vehicle, except for the right catalytic converter, which was 206 higher. Supposedly.

I bet you have two faulty cats which if now partially clog, make the entire exhaust system run so hot they can actually glow. By now I woulda had a high performance set of cats installed along with a free-flow exhaust. Make that puppy breathe like it wants.

There is a lot of stuff I want to do to it, but if the engine has a major problem, what's the point in putting the money into it if I'm going to be getting rid of it?

If the cats were clogged, wouldn't that be setting off a bunch of sensors?

Not really. The sensors when they go bad set off a fault code. A partially clogged or broken up cat probably won't.

Disheartening. Note from the service manager said all readings are technically within spec, so he doesn't know where to go from here. In his words. Heh. Then he says he needs to wait for Ford. That's not going to work. I put in a call to the Ford rep I've been dealing with. She's not calling me back now for some reason. My Jihad has begun.

Sorry to hear that, gotta be frustrating.

You might try signing up over at the diesel stop dot com (if you're not already) and PM'ing Cory. He's a Ford Customer Service rep and has assisted alot of guys with service issues (escalating, etc). He's listed under the name FordCustomerService. (Sorry FTE for sending users elsewhere....).

Third call in to the 'customer care' rep. NO RESPONSE.

It over, Johnny. The dealer solved the problem by taking the truck off my hands. I now have an 11 F350 Supercrew PS 6.7 Lariat. They admitted there was an unsolvable problem with the 250, and stopped short of admitting lemon law, so I can only assume they are going to try and resell it.

New truck is gorgeous, and man does it go. Thanks for all your help and advice on this one.

Too bad you had to go through so much but at least you got resolution on it. The new diesel IS a monster. I test drove Steve's (KC8VQO) with 15k behind it at the Ohio meet and you could hear the tires trying to break loose.

Bluecrystalman,

Read through your posts here. Certainly glad to hear the dealer took care of you...but wow! Disappointing to hear that Ford didn't step up sooner.

I ordered a 2012 F250 SD gasser, that just arrived at the dealer last week...haven't even picked it up yet. (will when I get back in town). Would be interested if Ford ever got back to you with a response on whether this is a known issue or not.

I hope your new truck is treating you well!

Ford closed the case as soon as they learned the dealer was stepping up. I have to say, as I just filled out the survey for the Customer Relationship Center, I was slightly disappointed in them. At first they were all gung ho and wanting to get it resolved, and they did spark the dealer to dig a little deeper, but the followup calls stopped coming, even after I left them messages. Toward the end, to get them on the phone, I needed to call the center and whine about the lack of callback, and they got the rep on the phone.

As soon as the dealer agreed to work with me to get out of my truck without taking the massive hit one of you suggested might happen, Ford closed the case immediately.

I absolutely LOVED the old truck... but this new one... its a beast. I can't believe the acceleration on it. And the Lariat package... Like having my Eddie Bauer Expedition all over again.

So, not sure if Ford was behind the great deal I got in getting out of the gasser, or if it was all the dealer, but I am beyond satisfied.
