Question Front disc brake shields for 79 4wd with dual piston calipers

Anyone know where I can get a set of front disc brake shields?

I found plenty for a F150, but not a F250.

I am looking for a pair of good front disc brake shields for a 4WD truck with the dual piston brake calipers and 8-lug wheels. I think as far back as 76 may be the same.

I'm interested in parts from either Dana 44 or Dana 60 front axles. I am willing to modify something similar if necessary.

Many people remove these and throw them away.

I already checked with them, and they only have them for 1/2 ton trucks.

Won't work on my 3/4 ton...

Thanks for trying.

If someone chimes in and suggests you try a dealer: No FoMoCo Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any (as you already know).

1976/79 F250 4WD is the same.

E-BAY. Just have to watch it daily, and bid high. Took me bidding on about 6 pair to win a set.

Art, how much bigger are the dual piston calipers over the single, I'm thinking of trying to swap them for the single piston ones I have on my 77 F-150 with 15" rims and would I need to change the booster and/or master cylinder?

The overall footprint is quite a bit bigger since there are two pistons instead of a single piston. The mounting dimensions are very different as well.

I don't know the actual square inches of piston area difference though.

I would not change to dual piston calipers as that most likely would throw off the braking bias between the front and rear that the system is designed with. The master cylinder bore diameter, caliper piston diameters, and wheel cylinder diameters all act as a system together.

I think that if improvements are needed, one should first see if there is enough truck for the load being hauled.

If it is not a situation of overload, but just wanting better braking - then I would look into better friction materials (shoes / pads) as well as the surface finish of the rotors & drums.

My $.02

Original applications: 1980/90 F350 4WD & 1990/94 F250 4WD w/4500 lb. Dana 50 front axle:

EOTZ-2K004-F .. Front Disc Brake Rotor Shield-Right / Available from Ford.

MSRP: $74.98 // FTE sponsor PARTSGUYED.COM price: $53.99.
-------------------------------------------------------------
EOTZ-2K005-F .. Front Disc Brake Rotor Shield-Left / Available from Ford.

MSRP: $65.50 // PARTSGUYED.COM price: $47.16.

Will these fit a 1976/79 F250 4WD? I haven't a clue...the part numbers are different.

Art: VINTAGE FORD PARTS in Beaver Dam WI (877-846-8243) has 425 (!!) right sides, but no lefts. If you're nearby, you might want to take a look-see.

If they fit, you could order from Ed and save a few bucks. No one else in WI has either side.
