red dirt clogged fuel pump

own a 2008 f350 6.4liter. Truck went into "limp" mode the other day. When dealer checked it out they said it was problems with fuel pump. When they took off fuel filter under truck it was packed with red dirt. Dealer wont cover fuel pump , my concern is i bought it has a certified ford with 26000 miles and only put 6000 on it. Should they cover something like this and what could cause red dirt to build up so bad

They won't cover it, they consider it fuel system neglect. It could be some form of algae growing in your tank. Best bet is to change filters, run a heavy dose of a diesel additive that inhibits algae growth, and check the filter again after just one tank.

Is your truck a standard P/U with the tank in front of the axle or a chasis cab with the tank aft of the axle?

Ok. Had heard of issues a few years ago with dirt getting into the aft mounted tanks in chasis cabs but haven't heard anything like that with the tanks in front of the axle.

Sounds like someone may have messed with you and put crap into your tank. One of the reasons I have a locking gas door.

Could u go into the cab chassis issues? We have 2 550 08 models that have the exact same problem and get fuel from local truck stop or our in ground fuel pump that all our other trucks use.

I had read a few posts on this site 3 or 4 years ago about dirt getting into the aft tank on some of the chasis cab trucks. I've tried to find those posts with the search feature and no luck so far. As best as I can remember, it centered around the vent hose either being punctured or dislodged which allowed dirt to get into the tank eventually leading to plugging of the fuel filter.
