74 f100 not considered a highboy?
I have a 74 f100 7ft bed 390 2brl 4spd 4x4 5lug high pinion ram assist power steering. I find it quite rare and was told by many its a highboy.
The only doubt in my head is my coil springs are blue but im sure they could have been painted or replaced at some point. Any input would be helpful.

High Boys have a: Divorced transfer case, in cab fuel tank and 33 1/2" between the rear frame rails behind the cab.
No F100 of any year is a High Boy and the only V8 available for 1968/76 F100/250 4WD's was the 360 2V. 390's were not available with 4WD.
There's no such thing as a 7' bed. It's either 6 1/2' or 8.'
Power Assist P/S was optional on the following:
Garrison Power Assist P/S: 1973/75 F100 4WD / 1975 F150 4WD / 1973 F250 4WD / 1974 F250 4WD before serial number T80,001.
Bendix Power Assist P/S: 1974 F250 4WD from serial number T80,001 / 1975/76 F250 4WD / 1977 F250 4WD before serial number Y20,001.

Hey to tell you the truth tons of people think all 4x4 old Ford's are high boys. My uncle owned all Ford's and he still told me that a couple months back. I just didn't say a word. No use starting diddly over a non ford word (highboy).
I'm just saying there is a lot of bad information out there. Hard to decipher it all.

Oh and the bed thing, is there short bed, standard and long? I was under the impression i have standard

Highboy mythology
Get with the program already! all 70's lifted Fords are "highboys" just look at Craigslist if you don't believe me lol.....
....on a slightly more serious note, all the 4x4 F100's were afflicted with ram assist steering until '75.... when the F150 was introduced and Ford switched to integral power steering.
Actual highboys (73-77.5 F250 4x4's) kept ram assist steering until mid-year '77 when Ford lowered the truck roughly four inches and swiss cheesed the frame and added integral power steering and the ugly *** bass mouth grille....hence the "lowboy".
In closing.... ram assist is a nice concept but Ford didn't use the best of parts, so the system is prone to failure if not properly maintained, which few were so that's why it gets a bad rap, undeservedly so.
