Need help with leaking fuel filter housing '00 F-450
I am looking at a '00 F450 with the 7.3 and manual trans. It has a problem. I am told that the fuel filter housing is cracked and has a slight leak. I have not had a chance to look at the truck or the filter housing problem but it is at a Ford dealer and they quoted the price at $650+ installation. I have never had a diesel and this is all new to me. I gather that the housing is on top of the engine. Is this a somewhat easy part to get to? Can I find the part any cheaper? Trying to save a $ or two. If fuel isn't gushing out can I drive the truck? Thanks.

I wonder if it is just the fuel preasure regulator housing that is cracked, if it is, bob at diesel o-rings sells and aluminum machined one for 40 bucks. that would be top right of the fuel bowl, the line coming out there. I would go look, take a pic if you can, and post up here. There are a pile of orings as well. this is all my distrust of dealers speaking, but I have my doubts the whole bowl is cracked.

probably nothing more than 15 buks in o-rings from Guzzle diesel or Riffraff, couldnt fix. The bowl itself takes about 30 minutes, just mostly unplug/plug and play, once after you've replaced the o-rings...

Worst case if the bowl is actually cracked then get a replacement from a wrecking yard for $40 ish and rebuild it with the o-ring kit from Replacement O-rings for Ford Diesel Engines
(if you can't find one at a salvage yard then PM me and I'll send you one that you can rebuild).
