Need help with rear end vibration

Hello I own a 2002 Expedition 2wd. The truck drives great the only problem I have is on the highway about 50mph the rear end vibrates for just a second and it feels and sounds like we hit the rumble strip real quick but we dont. It does not happen any other spped just around 50 and like I said only last for a second. Any ideas???????

thanks

I'd start with an inspection of the driveshaft u-joints to see if they're worn.

That would be about the speed that the torque converter clutch locks up in overdrive. I suspect that you are experiencing torque converter clutch chatter. When was the transmission fluid changed last? Usually changing the fluid eliminates the chatter.

That's a great question I just bought the truck so I am not sure but I will look into changing it tomorrow and hope it fixes it.

I'm experiencing the same problem on my 2002 lincoln navigator. Did you find a solution?

I also agree with the guys above. When my 4r100 tranny did the same and chattered like rumble strips, shifting into OD, I changed out the ATF. It didn't immediately fix the issue but after some additives, including Slick 50 tranny, and eventually, Lucas Oul tranny additive, the rumble finally went away.
I know many here don't recommend additives but it worked for me.
This was probably 10 yrs ago and it's never come back.

If it's shuddering then add some Lucas tranny fix to it. I didn't have an issue with my Navigator but it worked very well on my Mustang.
