flathead fan

I have been thinking about my fan on my flathead 8. I have seen people put electric fans on them, but that is just more wiring. I remember that ford offered a fan with a clutch in it in 46 for the cars. Is there anyone making a clutch/fan set up? I think that would be real neat, and it should gain me some more power.

I've never heard of the clutch before (on early flatheads). Was it a fluid type like more modern ones?

I'd bet if you have the large-hub truck type fan, you could machine up an adapter to use a modern fluid clutch. I'm not a "fan" of electric fans, on my DD I see the temps climb 30 deg. at stop lights before the fan kicks in and drops it back down. All that temperature cycling can't be good for gaskets.

The one on my Grandpas 46 was electric. It was hooked to one of the temperature sending units and when it got so hot it would kick it on. He bought one of the few NOS ones that dennis carpenter had. I thought it was neat, but never heard of that option for the truck. I thought of rigging one up but I am not sure How that would go
