Okay Misery, how much effort is involved in pulling a heater core? Old Rusty's a '91 F 150 XLT Lariat 302 E4OD. Yes it has (non working) A/C. Not even sure that's my problem, just a guess. Every time I turn the heater on I get a STRONG coolant smell. Wet days, doesn't clear the windshield, just adds to the fog already there. SO FAR the floor seems to be staying dry. Opinions? Suggestions? Advice(always needed)? Summer IS coming, I just know it is. If I can limp through the rest of winter, may attempt it this summer when I won't miss it. May be a possibility, he's back at Tech School. (I'm lazy, didn't want to mess with repacking the bearings in this sHtuff) for front brakes, pads & rotors (warped), doing the bearings & seals while they're right there. Plus some other small stuff. Teacher said probably 2 - 3 weeks as they only have 1 day per week in the shop the next 2 - 3 weeks.

i beleave i fixed my leak for the moment that i posted about in the old thread. Retightened the bolt that went through the water pump into the timing cover and block and wrapped the engine out pretty good and i didn't see a stream of coolant spraying out of it all over everything so i suppose thats a plus. blew out my plug i was using for my powersteering pump cap that came in the new pump since i didn't have one now i gotta find some place that can actually get one for me.

I'm sure with A/C it's a different story, but my '79 was SUPER easy. It took longer to burp the air out of the cooling system than it did to change the core. The easiest one I ever did was a '70 Ford LTD with air. 4 minutes start to finish and I was taking my time. The core is under the hood behind a tin plate held on with two sheet metal screws. Undo the hoses and pull straight up. Why can't everyone do that??
