Fuel Mileage Question

I just went on a 6 hour road trip, pulling a small trailer, loaded with two couches and some other small miscellaneous items, maybe weighing 800 hundred pounds total, witch would include the weight of the trailer. I kept the old gal at about 65, turning right out 2500 RPMs. I have an 87 F350 Crew cab 4x4, Banks Sidewinder, C6, 4:10s and gear vendor. I got about 11 mpg for the duration of the trip. Does this sound about right. Seems a little low to me. I have about 180,000 on what I can assume is the original IP. Will a tired IP decrease MPGs? If I put in a new one, will I see an increase in MPGs and performance? Thanks for the info.

i was averaging about 13 or so mpg just driving around with my old ip and when i installed the new ip it pushed up to almost 18 and i average 17.2 now. With the turbo and GV you have, you are at least 8 mpg low. Id definitely do a ip and injector refresh. Youd save that in a few months gas mileage.

I just did new injectors and return line kit, but didn't seem to improve performance or MPG's, just fixed the leaking issues I was having. You think a new IP would make a noticeable difference? If so, did you go with a reman like from Pensicola?

i didnt the same thing you did and nothing will help a tired IP, you are actually finishing it off for good haha. It now has to pop new injectors so it is killing itself to keep up and leaking probably. Yes, i know from experience, it will make a huge difference. If you are getting 11 when you should be getting 18, yeah thatll change a lot in the old pocket book!

nothing beats having a properly tuned up engine when it comes to fuel economy.everything else is secondary.
once the injection pump is installed be sure to have it properly timed too.
consider slowing down on trips like that to 55mph or right around 2k rpm (the lower you can force yourself the better, while in top gear) will help in general as well.

I've heard bad stuff about Pensacola from over on Oilburners.net. The best IP that you can possibly buy is from a guy named Mel (Agnem on Oilburners) and is called the Moose Pump. Baby Moose for N/A engines, Moose for turbo engines. I think it's more expensive, but it's supposed to be way way worth it. That's where I'm headed when it comes time for one along with a set of new BB code injectors.

Another option on the IP is the U-haul parts sale where many of us have picked up good rebuilt IPs for $220 or less. I believe they still have some in stock? I just put one of the U-haul IPs on my truck this past weekend, with a new injector set from Russ and the new return line kit. No new mileage figures yet, but I will say it seems to be more responsive than it was with the old IP and injectors. I still need to get the timing set exactly to have optimum results.

I havent heard anything bad in a while from pensacola. Its hard to sort through the problems people had with regards to the problem being installation or actual operating of the pump. There is a lot to consider and sometimes its easier to just throw out names when frustrated. But i dont doubt there are problems with any rebuild. Most Mel(Agnem) pumps average from 575-675 but can go as high as 1000 depending on the rebuild parts needed. So sometimes its better for those with a light budget to go with a lower price. If you want to build some serious numbers, yeah the moosers are the way to go but if you want your truck to get down the road, well you get the idea. Like my uhaul pumps, i got two of them for 375, cant beat that price and it works perfect. Something to remember, most pumps will overpower our engines with fuel regardless of mileage. You dont need them to put out more fuel unless you are turboed or hate pistons. But his matched BB injectors are priceless and hard to beat.

Yep, I also went the new injector route with an IP of unknown age, and my fuel mileage didn't budge, as soon as I put my Uhaul IP on, I went from 14.5 to 16.8 mpg, so yes, a new IP helped my fuel economy...

I have a 350 4x4 94 idi turbo lifted 35 tires E4OD runs great and I am only getting 10 to 11. It really runs good fires right up no smoke. I know my speedo is off by 5 at 60. Timing? It looks like a newer pump. I am thinking about injectors. I hate to replace them if they still good.

Thanks
