My 1995 F350 DRW 7.5L has a axle code D5. What gear ratio is that a code for?

 

if it ends in 5, it's a 4.10
if it ends in 8, it's a 3.08
if it ends in 9, it's a 3.55

 

D5- Ford Sterling 10.25 dual rear wheel 4.10 with limited slip diff (7400 rating)

If I had to guess, I'd say that it was the maximum weight it could support.

 

Yea that's what the axle is rated to withstand as far as a total load goes. That number is also helpful when ordering rear springs and some of the axle and break components. Just like with a F250. Knowing if you have a D44HD or a D50 when ordering bearings, axle joints. Ect.
