HELP! Rear axle swap, different size yoke on new axle!

Someone school me on the different sizes or types or u-joints on these trucks.

My truck is a 1996 F250 and the u-joints had straps that bolted to the yoke.

The used axle I bought was SUPPOSED to be from a 1995 and appeared to have a smaller yoke that uses u-bolts to secure the u-joints to the yoke.

I had to leave the shop since the alarm arms at 8:00 so I didn't have time to investigate much further. Do I just need to get the u-bolts or do some trucks use a smaller u-joint??

TIA!

I swapped axles between a 95 and 96 and they were the same except the transfer case yoke. I took care of that and bolted it right back up with the straps. The front drive shaft on mine had the small u bolts though. Not much help u know but a little info anyway

looks like I may have found my answer, 331 and 434 u joints are used in the rear... One with straps, the other with u-bolts. Now I have to see if anyone makes a 331/434 combo joint.

At least from 86 on I believe were all caps on the rear ends. U bolts on the fronts. IIRC

Have you tried changing the yokes. I think the pinion shaft on both should be the same.

Napa has the combo U-Joint that you are looking for. It's about $40.00
