Long and short C6
I have two C6 transmissions. Both came out of 74 trucks, both with 390 FE engines....one donor was an F250, the other I don't know. One is 36" in length ant takes a splined yoke. The other is 30" in length and connects to the driveline with u-joint u-bolts. I thought they would be the same due to the year of the donor truck...but could someone educate me on the difference? Should I use one over the other? Thanks!

Correct me if I'm wrong but that means divorced transfer case or carrier bearing

In long wheel base truck a single shaft would have a tendency to whip.
The short transmission would have had a two piece driveshaft.

Both trucks had two-piece driveshafts. Same year...both original. One long and one short tailshaft. I can't remember, unfortunately, but it could be the short tans came out of a SWB truck, but for sure it still had a two piece driveline with a carrier bearing.
