Testing the coolant clutch fan???
Had my truck at the dealer for some end of warranty work was getting a CEL light with DTC for the map sensor also got a CEL for DTC under boost dealer also says he had a open circuit for the clutch fan and that I need to replace the clutch fan . This weekend I decided to do a coolant flush and change the thermostat because the truck was running a little cool when I had the truck running outside with VC9 and the old thermostat and a peice of cardboard covering the rad I was getting coolant temps of around 169 -170 Fan rpm of 400-500 the fan would come off and on up to about 1500rpm temperarly at around 170 After I drained it and changed the thermostat I was getting Temps of 196 - 198 the fan had a RPM of around 400-500 The temp stayed consistant around 198 196 and the fan never came on over 500 rpm range
Question is what is a normal temp for the fan to come on and is there a way to test to see if it is doing what it should or is the dealer making me replace stuff for nothing

There should be an Activation frame on AE. If it's not there, right click on something, either the menu bar, the toobar, or the main page, I can't remember, and you should see Activation in the menu.
In the activation frame, you can set the engine speed and the fan on percentage. As you adjust the fan percentage you should see the fan speed increase and decrease.
EDIT: Sorry, it's "Actuation". Not activation.

Make sure you've updated to the latest version of AE. When you connect, choose Ford, your year, then scroll down and find 6.0L Powerstroke and select Enhanced CAN. In the Actuation pane, there is a check box and a value. Check the box and select the value and the engine should respond.
I've done this with mine, it should work with yours.
